    Pensacola Catholic, Jay, Pace, Escambia baseball, Pace softball all claim district titles | AREA ROUNDUP

    A lot of district championship hardware is coming back to Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

    A few area baseball and softball teams, including Jay softball , "four-peated" for a district crown. That also rang true for Pace baseball and softball.

    Elsewhere, Gulf Breeze beach volleyball's perfect season remains intact.

    Here's a roundup of area contests that happened on Thursday, May 2.

    Baseball

    Pace 4, Gulf Breeze 0: The Patriots remain on top of the mountain, shutting out the Dolphins in the District 1-6A championship game.

    Pace plated two runs in both the second and fourth innings, then held on to claim its fourth consecutive district crown.

    Stats for Pace were not reported.

    Tommy Regan had two hits for Gulf Breeze. Carter Hoeft and Gavin Quenneville both singled in the game.

    On the mound, Ky Cook recorded the loss with five innings pitched. He struck out five batters, surrendering four hits, four runs (one earned) and three walks. Roman Jackson, in one inning, struck out a batter.

    Gulf Breeze's season ends with a 12-10 overall record. Pace (16-5) earns the automatic bid into the Region 1-6A tournament, and will wait to see its seeding for the quarterfinals. Entering the district tournament, the Patriots were ranked fourth in the region.

    Escambia 5, Fort Walton Beach 4: The Gators rallied late in the game to win a nail-biter over Fort Walton Beach, claiming the District 1-5A championship.

    Fort Walton Beach scored four unanswered runs with one in the first inning and three more in the second. Escambia took advantage, plating three runs in the fifth and two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off victory.

    Marcus Days posted two hits and a run for the Gators. Clayton Sanders ripped a single with two RBIs and a run. Anthony Hall posted a hit and an RBI. Ethan Pardue and Taivyn Anderson both singled in the game.

    Reid Shiver, Jordan Luckie and Caleb Bates all plated runs, while Luckie tacked on an RBI.

    Isaac Bates threw 5.1 innings on the mound for Escambia, striking out seven batters. He allowed nine hits, four runs (three earned) and four walks. Christian Stone, in 1.2 innings of relief, fanned four batters, allowing just a hit.

    Escambia (20-7) advances to the Region 1-5A tournament and will wait to see its opponent and location soon.

    Pensacola Catholic 6, North Bay Haven Academy 0: For the 25th time in program history, the Crusaders are bringing home a district championship.

    Pensacola Catholic recorded three runs in the third inning to open the scoring, before plating a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to round out its scoring.

    Brock Clayton led the Crusaders with a double and a triple, adding two RBIs. Chris Rembert posted two hits with a double, plating two runs and tacking on an RBI. Gavin Howard singled twice with a run and an RBI. Vaughn Howard also singled in the game.

    Jasper Simon (2) and Jalen Moton both scored runs. Moton and Colton Guillot both tallied RBIs.

    Parker Granse threw six innings on the mound, recording the win. He struck out nine batters, allowing just three hits and a walk. Guillot, in one inning, struck out one batter, surrendering a walk.

    Pensacola Catholic (26-1), ranked No. 1 in the entire state entering district tournaments, will advance to the Region 1-3A tournament and will wait to see its opponent during a future selection show from the FHSAA.

    Jay 5, Northview 0: The Royals got revenge over the Chiefs from a year ago, and helped make it a District 1-1A sweep between baseball and softball.

    Scoreless through four innings, Jay plated all five runs in the fifth inning to claim victory.

    Ethan McDonald led Jay with two hits, two RBIs and a run. Both Brady Godwin and Grayson Shehan recorded a hit and a run. Landon Golden posted a hit and an RBI. Ryan Starosta also singled in the game. Hayden Morris and Jax Lowery plated runs.

    Golden also threw a complete game, striking out six batters. He allowed just four hits.

    For Northview, Brady Smith, Robbie Bodiford and Jase Portwood all singled in the game.

    Jackson Bridges threw six innings on the mound in the loss, striking out two batters. He allowed six hits, five runs (four earned) and two walks.

    Northview's season ends with an 11-15 overall record. Jay (15-10) earns the automatic bid into the Region 1-1A tournament, and will wait to see its quarterfinals opponent and location.

    Softball

    Pace 16, Tate 0: The Patriots' offense has been a focal point for their success this year, and the shutout over Tate in the District 1-6A championship game was no different.

    Pace scored a run in the first inning before going on a 13-run tear in the second frame. With two more runs in the top of the third inning, plus a scoreless bottom half of the frame, the Patriots claimed the title in three innings.

    Pace's Shelby McKenzie went a perfect 4-for-4 with a home run, adding four RBIs and three runs. Jayden Heavener, 3-for-3 at the plate, also crushed a home run, tacking on a run and four RBIs. Mallory Baker singled twice with a run and an RBI. Lana Gonzales had two hits with a run.

    Britten Kettler added a home run with three RBIs and two runs. Kamryn Pierce doubled with two RBIs and a run. Abigail McLean singled with a run and an RBI. Shelby Crooks had a hit and plated two runs. Kaylee Hicks and Emma Hicks both scored a run, while Tatum Hasting tacked on an RBI.

    Heavener threw a no-hitter, striking out six batters in three innings. She surrendered just one walk.

    Stats for Tate were not available.

    Tate (15-11), ranked sixth in Region 1-6A entering the district tournament, still has a chance at an at-large bid for the region tournament. Pace (23-2), the No. 1 team in the FHSAA, earns the automatic bid into the region tournament and will wait to see its quarterfinals opponent.

    Fort Walton Beach 1, Gulf Breeze 0: The Dolphins narrowly fell to Fort Walton Beach in the District 1-5A championship.

    The Vikings plated the only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Gulf Breeze couldn't find an equalizer.

    Sydney Hersom, Leila Ammon and Kenna King all recorded singles for the Dolphins.

    Ammon also threw a complete game, striking out 13 batters in seven innings. She allowed three hits, an unearned run and a walk.

    Gulf Breeze (14-9), ranked second in Region 1-5A entering the district tournament, will wait to see its opponent and location in the region tournament as an at-large bid.

    Wakulla 8, West Florida 2: The Jaguars fell short in the District 1-4A championship game to Wakulla.

    Inning-by-inning scores were not reported. Individual stats were not available.

    West Florida (16-11), ranked fourth in Region 1-4A entering the district tournament, is likely an at-large bid into the region tournament next week.

    Beach volleyball

    Gulf Breeze 5, Lincoln 0: The Dolphins are moving on.

    Gulf Breeze defeated Lincoln in the second Region Play-In game. Gulf Breeze won the first pairing, 2-1, before winning the second through fifth pairings, 2-0.

    Individual stats were not reported.

    Gulf Breeze (18-0), still undefeated on the season, advances to the first round of the state tournament on Friday in Tallahassee, and will play Bishop Kenny.

    Boys tennis

    Class 1A Individual Draw (Doubles): Pensacola Catholic's Benjamin Ling and Gannon Davis fell in the semifinals at Sylvan Lake Park in Orlando. The duo lost to Samuel Uribe and Victor Ramos (Downtown Doral) by scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

    Class 3A Individual Draw (Singles): Gulf Breeze's Eric Ormsby finished as runner-up in the individual draw. He won his first bout of the day in the semifinals over Mason Whitesides (6-2, 6-4), before ultimately falling to Zach Hyatt in a close match (4-6, 7-6 [7-4], 10-4) in the finals.

    Class 3A Individual Draw (Doubles): Gulf Breeze's Eric Ormsby and Morgan Leibowitz fell in the finals at the individual draw. The Gulf Breeze duo won its semifinal matchup over Julia Nunez and Julian Vinals (6-2, 6-1). Later in the day, the Dolphins fell to Reef Davis and Brayden Woods (7-6, 2-6, 11-9).

    Girls tennis

    True North Academy 4, Pensacola Catholic 1: The Crusaders' run as a team came to a close in the semifinals at Sylvan Lake Park in Orlando.

    In first singles, Gabby Goyins (PC) defeated Daniela Chica (6-7 [7-5], 6-2, 11-9). Alba Martinez (TN) claimed second singles against Maya Chavan (6-0, 6-1). Maria Bush's (PC) bout against Alessia Franco in third singles was abandoned, but Chavan was trailing 1-6 beforehand. Luciana Chica (TN) took fourth singles over Alexa Anderson (6-1, 6-0). In fifth singles, Amelia McIntosh's (PC) bout against Andrea Palaciois was abandoned, but before were scores of 1-6, 0-3.

    In first doubles, Daniela Chica and Martinez (TN) defeated Goyins and Bush (4-0, 4-0). Luciana Chica and Franco topped Chavan and Anderson in second doubles (4-1, 4-0).

    Class 3A Individual Draw (Doubles): The Dolphins' duo of Sarah McElrath and Ella Goodwin won the doubles individual draw in Orlando. To kick off the second day, the duo won the semifinals over Alexandra Hamilton and Kathryne Jones (6-4, 6-1). The pair from Gulf Breeze then won in the finals against Sofiya Janos and Gloria Xiao (1-6, 6-2, 10-7).
