P&HCC Softball Wins Appalachian District Championship, Earns Bid to NJCAA Softball World Series
Patrick & Henry Community College’s Lady Pats softball team is heading to Chattanooga, Tennessee to participate in the NJCAA DIII Softball World Series from May 22-25, 2024!. They defeated Caldwell Community College 4-0 to win the Region 10 Championship and then defeated Owens Community College 13-2 to win the Appalachian District Championship.

Maryland man, two others charged in federal court for alleged bomb threat swatting scheme
BALTIMORE, MD—A federal grand jury has indicted three people, accusing them of placing a series of bomb threats against schools, hospitals, airports, and other institutions. Owen Jarboe, 18, of Hagerstown, Maryland; Evan Strauss, 26, of Moneta, Virginia; and Brayden Grace, 18, of Columbus, Ohio; were charged in a six-count indictment with conspiracy, cyberstalking, interstate threatening communications and threats to damage or destroy by means of fire and explosives. The suspects were indicted in connection with a string of swatting calls that took place from December 2023 to January 2024.

This week, we had the opportunity to sit down with Johnny Buck, the executive director and co-founder of Rooster Walk, to discuss the upcoming Rooster Walk 14. The festival began in 2009 as a tribute to late high school friends Edwin Penn ('the rooster') and Walker Shank. From its inception, the festival has focused on supporting a charity that grants college scholarships to deserving seniors at Martinsville High School and provides instruments and funding to enhance local school band programs. Rooster Walk Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit, has raised over $350,000 for these causes.

The Town of Chatham’s police chief Randy Lawson urged drivers to pay attention to the new mirror when making this right-hand turn.
