PENDLETON, Ind. — An inmate at a Pendleton correctional facility was charged with attempted murder after he reportedly cut another inmate across the neck in the bathroom.

According to court documents, Chris McCue has been charged in Allen County with the following:

    • One count of attempted murder, Level 1 felony
    • One count of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony
    • One count of prisoner possessing a deadly weapon, a Level 4 felony
    • One count of battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony

In January 2023, the documents said that an inmate entered the bathroom in the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility when McCue followed the inmate inside. Officials said as McCue entered the bathroom, he reportedly held “an unknown item (that was) several inches long.”

The documents said that the inmate and McCue were alone in the bathroom for around 20 seconds before the inmate left the bathroom “with a cut across his neck that (was) bleeding visibly.” The inmate was then taken to a local hospital to treat the laceration.

During the course of the investigation into the incident, officials claim that McCue referenced the incident on the inmate, telling an individual on a recorded phone call that he “didn’t beat him up. He has 47 stitches in his neck.”

In an additional written message, McCue said that if the incident went the way he wanted, the inmate “wouldn’t B (breathing) right now.” McCue also wrote that he was trying to get out of the facility, going as far as to say that he would be “willing to kill someone to make it happen.”

“Motherf—– pissed me off and I gave him about 47 stitches in his neck,” McCue reportedly said in an additional phone call.

According to court documents, McCue’s initial hearing occurred on Tuesday.
