PEMBROKE, N.C. (WBTW) — A 17-year-old was reportedly killed in a shooting at an apartment complex Wednesday by an acquaintance, according to Pembroke Police Chief Adrian Hunt.

Police officers responded to the apartment complex on Roberts Avenue and found the teen with a gunshot wound, Hunt said.

Pembroke police along with the Pembroke Fire Department, Pembroke Rescue and the Robeson County EMS attempted to save the teen but were unsuccessful.

The victim was transported to UNC Southeastern Hospital where he died from his injuries.

After police completed their investigation, the acquaintance, Marshall D. Hunt, 37, of Pembroke was charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Hunt is being held at the Robeson County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

“This is a tragic gun safety handling event that should have never taken place,” Hunt said. “Our hearts go out to the family of the victim and all those affected by this tragic incident.”

If anyone has any more information on this shooting, they are able to contact Detective T. Rigsbee at 910-521-4333.
