Blazing the Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail
We’re getting ever closer to an interconnected northern Michigan thanks to ongoing work on the Boyne City to Charlevoix Trail. According to the Top of Michigan Trails Council, the third phase of the trail is underway and slated for completion this year. The 2.36-mile segment begins at the north end of Springwater Beach Road and continues on the Lake Charlevoix side of Boyne City-Charlevoix Road through Bay Township. Before the trail meets the Village of Horton Bay, it will connect to the road. The remaining phases of the trail—segments four and five—encompass another 6+ miles of trail to fully link Boyne City and Charlevoix. Fundraising is underway for the remaining segments, though no firm dates are set for groundbreaking. Stay up to date with the trail’s progress at trailscouncil.org.
Community Foundation awards Little Traverse Bay Watershed project grants
PETOSKEY — The Petoskey-Harbor Springs Area Community Foundation recently awarded grants to two projects intended to help protect Little Traverse Bay and its watershed. $100,000 check puts Save Cornwall group closer to saving dam
CHEBOYGAN COUNTY — The campaign to save the Cornwall Dam in Cheboygan County is getting closer to its goal. On Tuesday, the group “Save Cornwall” received a check worth $100,000 from Awakon Federal Credit Union. The founder of the group Curtis Goldsborough says this means they have 75% of the close to $1.5 million needed to repair the dam, which was set to be removed. Goldsborough says he’s amazed at what the group has been able to accomplish, going from just raising awareness to taking action and raising funds.

The first to appear in court was Mrs. Lillian Hanson, of 223 South B street, who was charged in the complaint by Sheriff Slate with the sale of intoxicants in the form of moonshine whiskey. This she denied and was told that she could waive examination or demand a hearing, to learn the evidence against her. She asked the court to fix the time and the same was placed as Monday, April 28. Her bonds to appear for examination were placed at $1,000 with two sureties.
