(Guthrie Center, IA) – ACGC’s boys’ track and field program has seen a multitude of successes this season. Central College will be getting a part of that success next season as both Lance Bunde and Andrew Mahaffey have signed on to the Central College Track and Field team for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Talking with ACGC Head Boy’s Track Coach, Cody Matthewson, he spoke on how hardworking both of these young men are not only on the track but in the classroom. Starting with Lance, he is a very athletic runner on the track and a basketball player who has signed on to play both sports at Central. Bunde is one of the top high jumpers in the area who has a record of 6’5″ jump and was the second-leading scorer in basketball with 13.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game this past season.

Coach Matthewson also highlighted Andrew Mahaffey who has been one of the top distance runners for ACGC this season. Andrew just ran the 1600m run on Thursday and earned first place with a time of 4:41.02. He has been highlighted as one of the top distance runners in just about every meet this season and will carry over that success on the track to the next level at Central College.

This is a huge accomplishment for not only Bunde and Mahaffey but for ACGC athletics. ACGC has three former Chargers who are running at the Division I level at UNI including Kate Crawford, Chloe Largent, and Austin Kunkle. While featuring those three at the Division I level, the Chargers also feature Jedd Weinkoetz at Southwest Community College and Justin Reinhart at Luther. These athletes speak for the ACGC program itself and that if you work hard, you’ll fit right in with the culture of Charger athletics.

We wish the best of luck to both of these athletes who will continue their high school seasons at ACGC and both continue to make their mark in ACGC athletics.
