First Alert Forecast: A break from the humidity but hot and steamy conditions return this weekend
JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Today: It’s been a beautiful start to the day so far with cooler temperatures and less humidity. This will continue for your Tuesday afternoon as highs only top out in the mid 80s today. The humidity will still be on the low end as we wind down the afternoon and into the evening with clear skies overhead. Lows will be on the cooler side again tonight dropping into the middle and lower 60s.
Speaker White wants to make it easier for Mississippi students to switch school districts
House Speaker Jason White on Monday said he supports changing state law to make it easier for K-12 students to transfer to other public schools outside their home districts. White, a Republican from West who just completed his first year as speaker, told attendees at the Stennis Capitol Press Forum in downtown Jackson that parents should have greater freedom to select which school district their child attends, though the state would not provide them transportation to attend a school outside their home district under his proposal.

Annual West Tennessee Collectors Club Coin Show
The 65th annual coin show sponsored by the West Tennessee Collectors Club is scheduled for September 7-8, 2024, at 309 N. Parkway in Jackson. This annual coin show is held each year the weekend following Labor Day. U.S. and foreign coins, ancient coins, tokens, gold and silver, paper money, Confederate money, supplies for the collector, books, Civil War and other historic documents, and jewelry will be bought and sold by dealers (all of them primarily coin or currency dealers) from several states. The show takes place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and the event has excellent handicap access. Free coins will be available for children.
