Man killed, teens arrested in connection to Sunday night shooting in Jones Co.
JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Three people have been arrested in connection to a weekend shooting that happened in Jones County that left one man dead. According to Mitch Sumrall with the Jones County Sheriff’s Department, teenagers Kantravious Haynes and Lucas Jones, and one woman, Dytayshia Smith, have been arrested in connection with the shooting death of 44-year-old Timmie Edward Carter of Taylorsville.

Sandersville PD hiring part-time patrol officers
SANDERSVILLE, Miss. (WDAM) - The Sandersville Police Department is in need of more part-time patrol officers for the unit. Deputy Chief Robert Decuir said they are short about five part-time patrol officers. Applicants must be certified for this position. Part-time pay is $11.43 per hour and full-time pay is $13.75.
The Rock Church shooting suspect sentenced to prison after guilty plea
JONES COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - The man accused of fatally shooting a man in a church parking lot in Laurel in 2023 was sentenced to prison Friday morning. According to 13th Circuit Court District Attorney Chris Hennis, George Ryan Walters was sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
Four Smith County residents rescued from flooded homes
SMITH COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – Four Smith County residents were rescued from their flooded homes. The flooding happened on SCR 103-1 around 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17. According to the Smith County Emergency Management, a boat was utilized to rescue the residents. They were unharmed.
