Photos show smiling National Guardsman recovering from chopper crash
New photos have been released of a local guardsman injured in a helicopter crash back in March, as he continues to recover. The 3-142nd Assault Helicopter Battalion out of Ronkonkoma, New York posted photos Wednesday of Rensselaer Native Jacob Pratt taking part in a pinning ceremony from his hospital bed.
Long Island Cares Warehouse Aisle Named “King Kullen Place” in Honor of King Kullen
Each month, Long Island Cares distributes over one million pounds of food to Long Islanders in need. The food items are collected, stored, and packaged for distribution at Long Island Cares’ central warehouse in Hauppauge, NY, which now boasts an exciting new addition — a “King Kullen Place” street sign displayed high above a main aisle. The recognition is part of a unique legacy naming program developed by the Long Island Cares/Harry Chapin Food Bank to further its mission to provide food where and when it’s needed to communities across Long Island.
With hurricane season coming, be prepared
The looming possibility of natural disasters — such as hurricanes and other severe storms — poses a significant, and ongoing, threat to Long Island, and particularly for those living in more vulnerable coastal communities, like Long Beach and Freeport, which are most susceptible to damage caused by high winds and surging floodwaters.

I grew up in Medford and went to high school at MASH. My favorite classes there were AP Literature and AP History. Outside of academics, I participated in tennis and the philosophy club. Suffolk County Sting: Hookah City Employee Arrested for Selling Flavored Vapes to Undercover Minor
Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for selling flavored vape products to a person under the age of 21 during a compliance check in Medford. In response to community complaints, Sixth Precinct Crime Section officers checked eight locations for age compliance related to sales of vape products. One store was not in compliance.

Plain Talk: A graduation message
It’s hard to believe that we are in the midst of another college graduation season. As an educator, I have valued my time teaching college and graduate students. Since the pandemic, educating college students has changed radically. Their academic skills could be stronger, as well as their critical thinking and analytical writing skills. However, I have still found them open to new ideas and broader perspectives on their view of the world. Like many of my colleagues, I am concerned about their tendency towards isolation and their disconnectedness from their peers.
