Jiffy and Chris Spurrier are the new owners of Lazy Loon Lodge, located on State Highway just north of Park Falls.

Jiffy Spurrier said the couple started looking at the property to purchase the former Park Falls Motel in May 2023, and acquired it the following October. After a soft opening on March 18 Lazy Loon is now open for breakfast, brunch and espresso-based coffees from 6 to 11 a.m., with plans to add lunch and dinner menus.

The Spurriers are now taking reservations for the 10 room motel. In addition to the full kitchen there is a fully stocked bar and the business is looking at becoming a small event venue, from a buffet dinner, a family reunion, or an intimate wedding.

The entire process has been a family affair that includes not only Jiffy and Chris, but Jiffy’s mother, Tami, and stepdad Dave Dispensa. Dave assisted with much of the start-up work that included some repairs to the facility while still working as a teacher at Chequamegon High School in Park Falls. Chris enjoys his role as cook, Tami acts as a server and Jiffy works in whatever capacity is needed at any given time.

Tami originally hails from Alaska where her parents owned a restaurant and so is familiar with that line of work. Jiffy spent most of her formative years there but admits she might have taken the beauty of that state for granted since she “was a kid and that’s all I knew.”

Jiffy plans to visit Alaska again, accompanied by Chris and their two daughters, Arya and Iris. She and Chris met in California and when Dave and Tami decided to move to Wisconsin, they followed suit and are happy with the opportunities that have opened up for all of them.

The four are now working together to build the business.

“Things started out slow,” Jiffy said, “but we expected that, since we opened on a soft start to see how it would go, and get things figured out. It’s taken off well. Happily, we now have a few regulars.”

Jiffy said she appreciates how the community has been so welcome and accepting. Much of their initial business was by word of mouth and that continues to grow.

Chris maintains a Facebook page with photos and menus that has garnered likes and followers. They also appreciate the local business community.

Jiffy especially mentioned Patterson’s Sugar Bush. The kids visited on a school trip to see how maple syrup and maple sugar are made. Lazy Loon now boasts two signature drinks that include Patterson maple products.

In addition to increased business in the restaurant portion, they have had several inquiries as to room availability, mostly by outdoor enthusiasts such as ATVers, UTVers, hunters and anglers. They’ve also had room inquiries for the annual Flambeau-Rama in August.

Lazy Loon Lodge is located at N16054 State Highway 13. For more information, call 715-518-9258 or visit their Facebook page.
