Panhandle man arrested after shots fired
On Wednesday, July 25, at 6:37 a.m., law enforcement responded to a call at a rural residence approximately one mile east of Mitchell NE. The reporting party, a female at home with her children, reported that a male was knocking at her back door, that he had a handgun, that he might be on drugs, and she thought he was trying to get into the house. She then reported hearing multiple shots fired, although none were fired into the house. A Scotts Bluff County Deputy was first to arrive on scene. He located the male nearby and took him into custody without incident. The male had a handgun in his possession but did not threaten the Deputy with it.

Bayard man sentenced for falsification of union financial reports
United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced that Donald Fox, 55, of Bayard, Nebraska, was sentenced on July 24, 2024 in federal court in Lincoln, Nebraska for four counts of falsification of annual financial reports filed by a labor union. Senior United States District Judge John M. Gerrard sentenced Fox to four years of probation. Fox will also have to serve five weekends in jail. Fox has also been ordered to pay $14,874.05 in restitution to the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1836. Prior to sentencing, Fox paid $9,746.07 in restitution back to the union.
