Gulf World’s beloved Harbor Seal Sheldon passed away

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. ( WMBB ) – Gulf World has announced the sudden passing of male harbor seal Sheldon.

Sheldon passed away on Wednesday afternoon surrounded by his loving and dedicated care team.

According to Gulf World staff, Sheldon’s health began to deteriorate rapidly and his care team thought it would be best to humanely euthanize him. A necropsy will be performed to determine more about his cause of death, staff added.

Sheldon was an extremely sweet, dynamic, intelligent, and creative seal who spent many years capturing the hearts of his care team and guests alike, staff said. He was always eager to learn new behaviors and his contagious attitude toward learning and interacting with his trainers and guests will be fondly remembered.

Park officials are asking the public to share their memories of Sheldon during their visit to Gulf World.

Sheldon would have turned 10 years old on May 30.
