Anthony Wayne falls in Division I state softball semifinal
AKRON — Anthony Wayne's superb softball season came to a disappointing end Friday night, as the third-ranked Generals surrendered the game's first run on a daring base-running gamble by Pataskala Watkins Memorial in a 2-0 loss to the Warriors in a Division I state semifinal at Firestone Stadium in Akron. The second-ranked Warriors (31-1) advance to Saturday's Division I title game and will face fourth-ranked defending state champion Austintown Fitch (22-1). “Carsyn Cassady pitched a great game,” AW coach Ron Myers said the Warriors' senior ace, who threw a two-hit shutout. “They're well coached and they put some stuff together at the right times to put a couple runs on the board. Hat's off to Watkins Memorial for the great game they played today. “We had a couple opportunities. Overall, I'm extremely proud of my players. The six seniors are the greatest class of softball players ever at Anthony Wayne. They've been to states three of their four years, so could not be more proud of these kids for their effort the last four years.”

Motion to dismiss filed in Ponzi-scheme case
Charges against eight people accused of being involved in a $72 million Ponzi scheme will be dropped, but the attorney general plans to refile those changes once discovery issues are resolved. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office filed a motion Friday seeking to dismiss the Northwest Securities case with the intent of refiling, spokesman Steve Irwin said. The reason for the motion is “numerous issues in the discovery process,” Mr. Irwin said. “There's millions of pages of documents and it's a very complicated case. So, one option to overcome those is for us to split the case apart,” Mr. Irwin said.
