One injured after 12th tornado of 2024 hits West Virginia
WOOD COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — One person was injured on Thursday night during what was confirmed as the twelfth tornado to hit West Virginia in 2024. The Charleston, WV National Weather Service crew surveyed and then confirmed an EF1 tornado with max wind speeds up to 90 miles per hour touched down in parts of Wood County on Thursday, May 9, 2024 just after 8:15 PM. The tornado touched down just east of Parkersburg and traveled 3.4 miles. The tornado’s path width was 250 yards, which is more than two football fields.

RAVENSWOOD — Buffalo played errorless softball here Tuesday night in game two of the Class A, Region IV best-of-three series and stayed alive after leaving town with a 5-3 victory against host Ravenswood, which won Monday’s opener 2-1. MARIETTA — Students from Warren and Parkersburg South high schools were selected as finalists at the southeast district of the Ohio Music Teachers Association’s annual Buckeye Piano Auditions at Marietta College. Ethan Knotts, a senior at Warren, was selected as a finalist in the senior division of the competition. Kaden Frum, a freshman at Parkersburg South, was chosen as a finalist in the junior division. L.V., did you get a chance to see the northern lights last night? I believe I saw little bits/slivers because I ashamedly kind of forgot until it was about 15 minutes past midnight. I was like ohh. PARKERSBURG — Emergency officials responded to a two-vehicle crash at Eighth and Avery streets at 3:22 p.m. Thursday. A gray Jeep turned over, trapping someone inside. Parkersburg Fire Department personnel were able to free the individual. WVU Medicine Camden Clark medics took them to the hospital for injury assessment.
