This new eastside facility helps local produce reach community plates
To the casual observer, the potential impact of a nondescript warehouse on Madison’s eastside isn’t obvious. But for those who have dedicated the last several years and more to transforming the building into a storage and processing hub for area farmers, the possibilities are abundant. Madison’s new multimillion-dollar, 10,000-square-foot Foodshed Partnership facility is capable of funneling several hundred thousand pounds of local produce each year into Dane, Jefferson and Waukesha county restaurants, food pantries and cafeterias at hospitals, schools and business campuses. “It’s about giving farmers a lot more room to scale and grow,” says Rachael Maysels, executive director of Madison’s FairShare CSA Coalition .

Plans for a new carwash at the former Hardee's site may be pushed back
JANESVILLE — Indiana-based company Crew Carwash says it will delay plans for a new carwash at the former Hardee’s site along Humes Road. The company says it’s working on projects in other Wisconsin cities first. Crew Carwash project manager Matt Schwartz said the company is now busy opening a new Fitchburg location and finishing construction on another carwash in Eau Claire. He said two other locations in Racine and Madison are now permitted for construction. The city’s Plan Commission approved conditional-use and zoning for the 2328 Humes Rd. site in November 2025. Janesville’s conditional-use permitting becomes null and void after one year without development launching on a site. The ordinance allows for extensions if requested. Schwartz said Crew Carwash will maintain the former Hardees’ property in a “neat and clean manner.” The group plans to hire a property manager until construction begins. They have also requested — and are in the process of coordinating — a vacant property designation with the city. Crew Carwash plans to build a 5,674-square-foot carwash with four vehicle-queuing lanes and vacuum stations. The developer said they would raze the existing Hardee’s building and replace it with an automated car wash. Plans show the carwash could
