El Dorado County election results: Here's who leads the 4th District supervisor race

In the race for the 4th District seat on the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors, Ted Gaines is ahead with 54.2% of the vote as of 10 p.m. Gina Posey had about 45.5% of the vote, according to unofficial early results from El Dorado County. The 4th District includes suburban communities near Highway 50 and several rural foothill communities in northern El Dorado County. The winning candidate will replace outgoing Supervisor Lori Parlin and will join a board focused on cutting costs, boosting revenue and mitigating wildfire risks. Ted Gaines is a small business owner who has run an insurance company for more than 30 years. He previously served in the state Assembly and state Senate, was elected the California State Board of Equalization and sat on the Placer County Board of Supervisors. While in state office, Gaines served as a Republican. Gaines was endorsed by U.S. Rep Tom McClintock, El Dorado County Sheriff Jeff Leikauf, District Attorney Vern Pierson and county Supervisors Brian Veerkamp, George Turnboo and Greg Ferrero. Measure S early results: El Dorado County voters rejecting hospital, wildfire tax

A proposed 30-year sales tax increase to fund hospital improvements, emergency response and wildfire prevention in El Dorado County fell short of majority support in early unofficial election night returns Tuesday. As of 10 p.m., Measure S had 66.6% “no” votes and 33.4% “yes” votes, according to unofficial results from the El Dorado County Elections Department . The initial results included ballots mailed before Election Day, with more votes left to be counted. The measure needed a simple majority to pass. The proposal would increase the county’s sales tax by three-eighths of a cent for 30 years , generating an estimated $13 million annually. The additional revenue would fund hospital improvements, local fire agencies and nonprofit organizations conducting wildfire-prevention work. During the first full fiscal year, 50% of the money would go to eligible hospitals, 45% to fire agencies and 5% to qualifying nonprofits. In subsequent years, the hospital’s share would be tied to debt payments for qualifying projects. Marshall Medical Center, which operates Marshall Hospital in Placerville, helped develop the proposal. Placer County election results 2026: Live city council races and tax measures

Placer County voters are deciding races for city council, school boards and other local offices in the Nov. 3, 2026, California general election. Among the contests are Roseville City Council races , along with council elections in Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn and Loomis. Voters are also deciding several local ballot measures, including proposed sales tax increases in Rocklin, Lincoln and Colfax. Placer County races and measures to watch In Rocklin, Bill Halldin, Jill Gayaldo and Walter Moore are competing for two City Council seats. Lincoln voters are deciding council races in the 1st and 2nd districts, while Roseville has contests in the 2nd and 4th districts. Three communities are considering sales tax increases : a half-cent increase in Rocklin, a 1-cent increase in Lincoln and a 1-cent increase in Colfax. 525 acres near Auburn could be protected forever. Here's what Placer County would pay

A 525-acre property northwest of Auburn could soon be permanently protected from housing development, expanding a large network of open space across western Placer County. The Placer County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to approve draft agreements to preserve the property, known as Harvego Bear River Preserve Phase 2. The land is near the Auburn Valley Country Club community and adjoins other protected land. The property is mostly covered by blue oak woodlands and used for cattle grazing. It has also been considered for housing development and could accommodate about 128 homes under current zoning. The proposed conservation easement would permanently prohibit development while protecting wildlife habitat, oak trees and ranching activities. If the deal is completed, the property would help connect more than 7,000 acres of protected land and grazing areas between the Bear River, Raccoon Creek and Hidden Falls Regional Park. “Preserving these beautiful oak woodlands is about safeguarding our natural heritage, supporting healthy ecosystems and ensuring future generations can enjoy the same extraordinary landscapes that we get to enjoy today,” Board of Supervisors chair Shanti Landon said.
