Wednesday's Top Prep Performers: Oxnard, Rio Mesa share Channel League softball title

Highlights from Wednesday in high school sports:

SOFTBALL

  • Layla Mukul went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Jiselle Garcia was 2 for 2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, and Kayla Lorona went 1 for 2 with an RBI and two runs scored as Oxnard (15-7-1, 12-2) beat Pacifica 10-3 to clinch a share of the Channel League championship.
  • Analia Lopez hit an inside-the-park grand slam, Jasmine Reyes allowed two earned runs while striking out five in seven innings and was 1 for 3 with three runs scored, Jocelyn Gomez went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, Alyssa Diaz and Ciara Lopez each went 1 for 2 with two RBIs, and Mariah Reyes was 2 for 4 as Rio Mesa defeated San Marcos 11-2 to clinch a share of the Channel League title. The Spartans (22-4, 12-2) have won eight straight league championships.

  • Jayla Raya went 3 for 3 with a double, triple, home run and four RBIs, Talia Denger had a homer and two RBIs, Jessie Sebek went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Yaya Landeros was 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Siena Lightcap was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs to lead Ventura (9-10-1, 6-8) to 19-2, five-inning win over Santa Barbara in a Channel League game.
  • Madison Shay was 3 for 3 with a double and a solo home run, Aubrey Trigo had a hit and two RBIs, and Isabella Rodriguez, Sydnee Loyola and Addison Coe each had a hit and an RBI to lead Buena (7-16, 3-9) to a 7-6 win over Dos Pueblos in a Channel League game.
  • Alianna Rodriguez hit a walk-off three-run home run to lift Camarillo to a 7-4 victory over Moorpark as the Scorpions (20-4, 8-0) finished league play as unbeaten Coastal Canyon League champions. Nathalie Hernandez went 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, Maddy Finnerty was 2 for 3 with a homer, and Shae Anderson had a homer for the Musketeers (10-8, 4-4).
  • Emma Estrella allowed two hits while striking out nine over six innings, Alexa Escamilla had a two-run homer and her RBI single ended the game in the sixth because of the 10-run mercy rule, Erika Sanchez had two hits and an RBI, Sofia Aviles had two hits and two RBIs, Aryanna Munoz had a triple and two RBIs, and Makayla Balboa had a double as Fillmore (13-5-2, 9-1) defeated rival Santa Paula 11-1 to clinch the Citrus Coast League title.

BASEBALL

  • Tristan Stehle went 4 for 4 with a double, triple and four RBIs, Aiden Gomez was 2 for 3 with two walks, a triple and three RBIs, Cooper Casey was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs, Hayden Villa had a hit and two RBIs, and Connor Nelles allowed four hits and no earned runs while striking out three in four innings as Foothill Tech (14-11-1, 6-0) beat Cate 14-4 to clinch the Frontier League championship.

  • Lucas Mendez went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs, Jaxx Martinez had two RBIs, Jason Valenzuela and Anthony Galicia each had a hit and an RBI, Jullian Espinoza had an RBI, and Dylan White allowed one hit and three earned runs while striking out eight in five innings to lead Santa Clara (2-20, 2-4) to a 16-4 win over Villanova Prep in a Frontier League finale.

  • Boston Bateman pitched six no-hit innings with 14 strikeouts and was 2 for 4 with two doubles at the plate, Nate Tostado went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Blaise Meylemans had a home run and two RBIs, Troy Arenzana was 2 for 2 with an RBI, Brayden Smith finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, Tommy Goodin went 2 for 3 with a double, and Jordan Gutierrez had a hit and an RBI to lead Coastal Canyon League champion Camarillo to a 10-4 win over Simi Valley . The Scorpions (18-5, 11-0) can finish league play undefeated with a win at home vs. Simi Valley on Friday. Jaxon Herron had two RBIs and Liam Blake had a hit and an RBI for the Pioneers (14-10-2, 6-4-1).
  • Carson Cerny went 2 for 3 with a double, triple and three RBIs, Greg Lareva had a double and three RBIs, and Taylor Busch was 2 for 3 with two doubles to lead Moorpark (14-10-1, 6-4-1) to a 10-2 victory over Oak Park in a Coastal Canyon League game. Sonny De La Torre went 2 for 2 and Henry Rizzotti had a double for the Eagles (4-14, 0-11).
  • JP Cardenas made a leaping catch over the right-field wall to rob a go-ahead two-run homer for the final out of the game to give Agoura a 2-1 victory over Calabasas in a Marmonte League game. Thomas Novak allowed one hit and one earned run with five strikeouts in five innings, Gavin Trafficanda pitched two scoreless innings, and Mike Moran was 1 for 2 with two RBIs for the Chargers (14-13, 5-9). Ethan Gibbel allowed two earned runs in a complete-game effort for the Coyotes (18-9, 9-5).

  • Justin Frohn allowed seven hits and no earned runs in five innings, Cameron Fausset pitched two scoreless innings and went 2 for 4 at the plate, Luke Medhurst was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, Andrew Vega went 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Paul Lizzul was 1 for 4 with an RBI, and Cade Falsken finished 2 for 3 to lead Newbury Park (15-11, 6-8) to a 6-1 victory over Thousand Oaks (9-17, 2-12) in a Marmonte League game.

BOYS GOLF

  • Adam Anderson shot a 2-under 45 to earn medalist honors, Brady McHenry had a 52 and Evan Kuske had a 57 for Buena in its 259-276 loss to San Marcos in a Channel League match that was reduced to 12 holes because of darkness at Sandpiper Golf Course. The Bulldogs finished tied for second in league at 5-2.
  • Aidan Peters fired a 2-under 68, Lucas Peterson shot an 82, and Myles Young and Andrew Skenderian each had an 84 to lead Newbury Park to a 403-415 win over Thousand Oaks in a Marmonte League match at Los Robles Greens Golf Course. Merrick Jacobus had a 77, Curren Springer shot an 80 and Tyler Malchow had an 84 for the Lancers.

BOYS TENNIS

  • Senior Drew Koval of Oak Park won the Coastal Canyon League singles title for the third consecutive season and brothers Lorenzo Romero and Santino Romero of Royal won their second straight league doubles championship.
