Lady Huskies golf finishes 3rd in Jewel Invitational

The Owatonna girls golf team traveled to The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City Wednesday afternoon to compete in the Jewel Invite. Led by a +3 round of 74 from sophomore Carmen Jirele, the Huskies finished third as a team with a compiled score of 335.

East Ridge finished first in the invite with a score of 307 while the host Lake City Tigers claimed second with 315 strokes.

Jirele’s round of 74 featured a trio of birdies on the back nine with 10 pars spread throughout the round as she finished tied for fourth overall. Paige Thompson finished tied for 10th with a round of 80 that saw her pick up a pair of birdies to go along with six pars.

Danika Kaytor (17th, 85) and Alexie Olson (38th, 96) rounded out the team scorers for Owatonna while Anna Mollenhauer (99) and Brynn Andrix (100) competed for the varsity team as well in the 72 player field..

The Lady Huskies will return to the links Monday, May 20, when they travel to Northfield for the second round of the Big 9 Conference Tournament which is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

The boys meanwhile will compete Thursday, May 16, when the team hosts the Owatonna Invitational 13 of the top varsity teams in the Southern Minnesota region. They will then travel to Eastwood Golf Club to do battle in the final round of the Big 9 Conference Tournament.
