Winona makes progress on new hotel tax, no parks silver bullet
Winona could soon have a new funding source for tourism-related projects. Winona and Visit Winona are exploring the creation of a tourism improvement district (TID) that would generate an estimated $375,000 annually through a fee on lodging stays in town. At the Winona City Council’s last meeting, city officials said the TID may not be as significant a revenue source for the city to catch up on its deferred park maintenance as previously hoped.
