In 1935-36, two events occurred which set the stage for the formation of a Natural Resources Department at Humboldt State. Sunny Brae Middle School Spanish Language Instruction and Immersion Program in Third Year
The Spanish Language Instruction and Immersion program at Sunny Brae Middle School (SBMS) is now in its third year. This long sought-after programming had previously failed to take root. Previous intermittent Spanish language electives and/or zero period tutoring offered some opportunity for new learners to dabble or for already fluent students to keep up on their skills. However, the new program allows students to take multiple years of Spanish over the course of their middle school experience, including the opportunity for some immersion coursework. The District was excited to post a full-time position heading into the 2023/2024 school year and even more excited to hire Andres Moreano. Mr. Moreano, who was born and raised in Ecuador, took a risk on the vision for the fledgling SBMS Spanish program and relocated to Humboldt County from Montana, where he had been providing Spanish instruction at Montana State University.
