Toledo mom post blogs about children, challenges
Kat Tomasewski has a digital archive of her life as a mother dating back to 2011, around the time her youngest child was born. The now-single mom of three in 2008 began hosting outings around Toledo for other moms and their kids. But as her kids got older, she found she didn’t have the time to personally mingle with local moms. “I really enjoyed meeting up with other moms and just hearing their stories, where they're coming from, the struggles they're dealing with with motherhood,” Ms. Tomasewski, 44, said. “I still wanted to have that community and I still wanted to share fun things to do around Toledo, even though I couldn't necessarily go out and do that with a group of moms. So I decided, ‘You know what? I'm going to start a blog.’” In the fall of 2011, she launched the Mom on the go in Holy Toledo blog, and the corresponding Facebook page has since attracted 10,000 followers.

Ohio’s State Teachers Retirement System is seeking a substantial increase in employer (taxpayer) contributions. Yet, STRS could make a change to the way that it calculates benefits so no tax increase would be needed. The STRS method for calculating a retiree’s payment is to calculate the average of the highest five years of income for a retiree. Unfortunately, this method of calculating benefits creates an incentive to game the system in ways that do not improve the education of Ohio’s children. Some examples are to earn a PhD, coach a JV team, or become an administrator for a few years...
