Oregon City equestrian dominates season-opening meet

Oregon City equestrian launched its 2024 season with a victory at the Tri-River Valley Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) meet, held from February 15-18 at the Yamhill County Fairgrounds in McMinnville.

Leading the individual scoring was senior Anna Hamersly with an impressive 92 points, followed closely by freshman Ava Thomas with 78 points. Sophomore Mary Jolma added 71 points, while junior Josie Davis and freshman Evelyn Grzemkowski both notched 67.

Junior Braelee Borden scored a meet-high 250 team points for the Pioneers, followed by senior René Haltiner with 240 points and sophomore Lilly Zuber with 212 points. Freshmen Evelyn Gzemkowski and Raelyn Billinghurst rounded out the top performers with 204 and 200 points, respectively.

In the team versatility event, the three teams from Oregon City earned first, second, and third-place finishes, respectively. The teams comprised various talented riders, including Hamersly, Thomas, Borden, and Grzemkowski.

The Pioneers ultimately dominated the competition, amassing an overall total of 1058 points, well ahead of second-place Molalla with 641 points.

In 2024, Oregon City hopes to continue its reign as the two-time defending state champion OHSET team.

So far, so good for the Pioneers.
