ST. LANDRY PARISH, LA ( KLFY ) — It has been over 72 hours since Wednesday morning’s storm shut off electricity to many people across the state, including in St. Landry Parish. As of 9:00 a.m. Friday morning, nearly 2,000 CLECO customers in St. Landry Parish were without power, with many of those numbers being in the Opelousas area.

“People trying to do what they can do to restore the lights and the tree cutters coming to cut the trees down. I’ll just be glad when the lights come back on,” Opelousas resident Alma Wilson said.

Some residents were able to use generators to get power while others were not so lucky.

“It’s been rough, but fortunately, I have a generator and also have a big truck,” one neighbor said. “I use an inverter to hook up, so I’m good on that side thank God.”

“Some people have generators, some people don’t have it,” Wilson said.

A lot of residents said the neighborhood always comes together in times like this to get through it.

“We tried to do a little cooking you know on the grill, so it [the food] doesn’t go bad you know,” Darrel Charles said. “We try to stay together in our little neighborhood you know in times like this, so we stay together.”

CLECO announced Friday afternoon that power should be restored to all Opelousas customers by the end of the day on Friday.
