Ontario police arrest 4 attempted robbery suspects

Ontario police have arrested four suspects for allegedly attempting a follow-home robbery from a local bank, authorities announced Saturday.

On April 25 two victims of the alleged crime were at a bank in the 11000 block of E. Fourth Street in Rancho Cucamonga, according to the Ontario Police Department. As they made a cash withdrawal, one of the victims noticed a suspect standing in line at the bank, later identified as Los Angeles County resident Dilan Cansino, who was watching them intently.

While driving away from the bank, the alleged victims noticed a vehicle leaving at the same time, police said. The vehicle began to follow the bank customers, prompting them to make several evasive movements to no avail.

“The victims called Ontario Police and dispatch remained on the line as they coordinated patrol units to respond to their location,” according to the Ontario PD’s announcement.

Officers found the suspect vehicle and detained the occupants, who authorities identified as Los Angeles County residents Cansino, Owen Acero-Pena, Jorgy Vargas and Maria Gonzalez. Acero-Pena is also currently on probation in LA County for robbery and carjacking.

“Officers were able to place all four suspects at the bank and determined they followed the victims for over five miles throughout the city,” police said.

The four suspects were arrested for attempted robbery, conspiracy to commit a crime and were booked into West Valley Detention Center.

Authorities did not provide the suspects’ ages or cities of residence, and information on bail or custody status was not immediately available.

“The Ontario Police Department wants to remind our residents to always pay attention to their surroundings and if they ‘see something, say something,'” authorities said. “Our department will continue to make every resource available to our officers to deter and arrest criminals who commit crimes in the City of Ontario.”
