Area Man Charged with Murder in Shooting Death is Identified by Law Enforcement; Victim also Named
According to WDTV, the Elkins Police Department has released the identities of the suspect and victim involved in a fatal shooting in Elkins Monday. Phillips told police in an interview that he shot the victim, Mark Wirth, 67, because he threatened his life with a knife. However, later during the interview, Phillips told police he could not remember if Wirth was waving the knife around in an aggressive manner or if he had taken a step toward him or his girlfriend, according to court documents.

Emma Andrews signs with Davis & Elkins College
On Wednesday April 24, Emma Andrews signed to swim at Davis & Elkins College located in Elkins West Virginia. She is the daughter of Will and Jenifer Andrews and will be majoring in Nursing. Andrews has been a part of the Altavista swim team for six years. She said she liked swimming because success and failure is based solely on what you put into the sport. She chose Davis & Elkins College because she loved the coach and the team. She wants to thank Coach Spencer for pushing her hard, Coach Brown for always believing in her, and Holly for pushing her in the pool plus Liz Norquest for seeing her potential. Along with Coach Shultz, Andrews has been B finalist every year since freshman year (States). Honors she has received include State medalist in the 200, eight regionals medals and seven school records.
