ELKINS, W.Va. (WBOY) — Following in the footsteps of other West Virginia cities like Morgantown and Clarksburg, the City of Elkins has put out a survey to see if its residents have an interest in the city having a Private Outdoor Designated Area (PODA).

Inside a PODA, alcoholic beverages may be purchased from participating vendors which can then be taken to other participating vendors within the area. The beverages must be served and consumed in specifically marked containers provided to each location that serves them.

A release from the city said that the aim of the survey is to gather opinions from the public on whether or not they would want a PODA, gather feedback on operating hours and locations and explore potential benefits for businesses.

The city emphasized that no businesses would be forced to sell PODA beverages nor would they be forced to allow PODA beverages inside their establishments. It also said that no decision has officially been made to establish a PODA and that any proposal to do so will go through the normal committee/council ordinance process.

If you’re a resident of Elkins, own a business in the city or are a general stakeholder, you can take the survey here.
