Middle school track season concludes with Almquist Invitational
OLD TOWN — Outdoor track and field teams from Piscataquis Community Middle School, Ridge View Community School, and SeDoMoCha Middle School concluded the 2024 season with other schools from around the region at the Almquist Middle School Invitational on Monday, May 20 at Old Town High School. More than a dozen local athletes had top 10 performances at the Almquist Invitational.

Hermon takes down Bangor 7-0
BANGOR - Despite three scoreless innings from both sides, Hermon softball took down Bangor on Monday night 7-0, snapping a two-game losing skid. Bangor's Taylor Clark retired the first six batters she faced. The Hawks' Mikelle Verrill allowed two hits to start the game, one to Eva Coombs and one to Victoria Jarnich, but then struck out the next three hitters to end the first, and stranded a runner on second in the second.
Four Maine baseball players named to all-conference teams
ORONO - Four Maine baseball players found their way on America East All-Conference teams when the awards were announced on Tuesday afternoon. Jeremiah Jenkins headlined four Maine baseball players on America East All-Conference teams as the lone Black Bear on the conference's first team. It's his second year in a row on the America East All-Conference First Team, and his third year being selected to an all-conference team. Jenkins led the league in home runs (22) and (.762), while finishing third in batting average (.341) and runs (47).
No. 1 seed Husson softball shut out by No. 3 Williams in NCAA regional finals
BANGOR - No. 1 seed Husson softball's NCAA Tournament run came to an end Saturday as the Eagles fell 4-0 to No. 3 Williams in the Bangor Regional championship. Ronni Ramos was the star at the plate for the Ephs with an RBI single in the fourth inning and a three-run home run in the sixth, bringing home all four Williams runs. In the circle, Ephs pitcher Sadie Leonard had a complete game with 10 strikeouts and two hits. Leonard was later named the regional tournament's MVP.
Albany baseball defeats Maine in season finale, Black Bears miss America East tourney
ORONO - A virtual playoff game for the Black Bears, Albany baseball defeated Maine 4-3 in Saturday's regular season finale to take them out of the America East Tournament. The Great Danes started the game up 2-0 with a first inning RBI double from Luke Fillippi and Luke Myers reaching home on an error in the third. In the bottom of the third, Maine got on the board with a Jeremiah Jenkins solo home run. That marked his 22nd of the year in what may have been his final game as a Black Bear.

Deslandes dials up speed at Bangor Raceway
Bangor, ME — Driver Dan Deslandes revved up the engine at Bangor Raceway on Sunday (May 19), building upon his meet’s leading dash tally by teaming three more winners. Ohoka Johnny N (1:55-$8.00) propelled Deslandes toward his hat trick performance with a dazzling gate-to-wire victory, timed as the fastest mile recorded during the young season at Bangor. Primed to go, the Karl Butterfield trainee threw in identically clocked :28.2 panels at the quarter, half, and three-quarter-mile markers before strolling home in a leisurely :29.4 and coasting to the 8-1/2 length margin at the wire.
Softball Game Recap: Mount Desert Island Takes a Loss
Mount Desert Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 23-3 to the John Bapst Memorial Crusaders. Mount Desert Island was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as John Bapst Memorial apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Wednesday.
