Waseca Council talks stop signs, wastewater upgrades
Following a crash last month and subsequent concern from residents and the City Council, the city of Waseca is set to install new stop signs at one of the few four way intersections in town which is currently controlled only by yield signs. Safety at the intersection of 6th St NE and 3rd Ave NE was raised several months ago as a concern by Councilor Mark Christiansen, and Councilor James Ebertowski flagged the issue for attention once again at the March 17 meeting, following a crash about two weeks prior. According to a report from the Waseca Police Department, the March 4 crash occurred after a southbound vehicle failed to properly yield, striking an eastbound vehicle at full speed. While both vehicles suffered severe damage, both drivers were unharmed. Questioning whether the yield signs at the intersection provided sufficient traffic control, Ebertowski urged staff to look into potential upgrades. In response, Public Safety Director Kris Markeson prepared a presentation on the issue for the Council’s April 7 meeting. Located a block south of Christ the King Lutheran Church and a block north of the Waseca Central building, the intersection is relatively quiet and traffic is almost strictly residential.
