The Oconto Area Humane Society is seeking donations to cover medical costs associated with a cat who had a leg amputated after being shot.

The 2-year-old domestic short hair cat they called Mitch was brought into the shelter as an injured stray. It was determined his leg had a severe break and a bullet was lodged in his leg.

"Unfortunately, this is not the first case where we have had a stray cat brought in from our area with a bullet wound," the Oconto Area Humane Society said on its Facebook page.

The amputation and care generated a $3,000 vet bill from Oconto Veterinary Center. The humane society is seeking donations to continue to provide care as well as provide emergency surgeries for other animals in need.

Donations can be sent to 150 S. Katch Drive, Oconto, WI 54153, or be made via its website, ocontoareahumane.org.

Mitch, along with other pets, are seeking a new "forever home" via the shelter.

"Mitch has since recovered from his leg amputation well," according to the Oconto Area Humane listing. "He is very active and loves meeting new people. He will make a great companion. Mitch is also polydactyl on all three paws!"

For more information, contact the shelter at 920-835-1738 or email ocontoareahumane@gmail.com.
