Wyoming County man pleads guilty to receiving or transferring stolen goods and conspiracy

WYOMING COUNTY, WV (WVNS) — A Wyoming County man pleaded guilty and was convicted for receiving or transferring stolen goods and conspiracy.

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, 61-year-old Jeffrey Scott Maynard, of Oceana, pleaded guilty and was convicted of one felony count of Receiving or Transferring Stolen Goods and one felony count of Conspiracy to Commit a Felony

Corporal Tyler Sizemore of the Wyoming County Sherriff’s Office went to the Marianna area of Wyoming County for reports of copper wiring theft. After an investigation, it was discovered that Maynard and a co-defendant stole around 240.5 feet of electric cable from Alpha National Resources, which was estimated to cost around $2,525.25.

Cable theft costs the mining industry not only in terms of lost cable but also in terms of repairing and/or replacing the stolen sections and lost production. We will continue to aggressively prosecute these crimes, the costs of which are passed on to the end user and ultimately to the consumer.

Maynard’s sentencing is scheduled for May 13, 2024.
