The good news for the Central Tigers during their Senior Night game against county rival Gore last Friday night at Tiger Stadium was that freshman quarterback Caden Bair shined in his first-ever varsity start. University of Tulsa claims students will be unaffected by 9% staff layoff
This promise seems far too good to be true. On Wednesday, Oct 14, President Stacy Leeds sent out a school-wide notice that the university had made the difficult decision to, between firing existing staffers and choosing to not fill vacant positions, reduce its staff size by 9%. In an email to students, she claimed, “No faculty positions were eliminated, and students should not be affected negatively.” In addition, in an interview with The Collegian, she further clarified that “only two of the affected staff members were directly student-facing. Those duties have been reassigned and should not impact the student experience.” This claim, however, sounds somewhat hollow. While the financial situation of the university certainly needs to be acted upon, and budget cuts and reduction of staff size were always going to be a part of that, the promise that such a cut will have no impact on the student body seems like a daydream more than the reality of the situation.

Just like everyday renters and homeowners, Tulsa-area school districts are feeling the squeeze on utility bills. It comes at an already precarious time for public schools. “You saw a lot on Facebook just about people’s home and personal bills being crazy,” said Natalie Eneff, chief financial officer at Broken Arrow Public Schools. “Think of that on a scale of 31 sites for a school district.”

SGA ratifies new constitution after two years
The University of Tulsa Student Government Association is set to ratify a significantly updated version of their constitution pending a vote from the board of trustees this Thursday, Oct. 29. This step follows unanimous approval from the board committee on Tuesday, Oct. 20, and a student vote held from 9 a.m. on Oct. 19 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 20. The new version has been in the works since the summer of 2024, and has faced significant delays in publication over time, despite containing many corrections to the content of its predecessor from the year 2000. The only change in the 2023 ratification was the switch from Student Association (SA) to SGA. This is the furthest the updated constitution has ever come to being signed into effect, after miscommunications and typographical errors prevented it from passing approval from the board committee in 2024 and 2025.
