Both Oak Ridge High School tennis teams ended their regular season April 25 against Bearden High School on the public courts near Jackson Square.

The Wildcats lost 3-6 and the Lady Wildcats 0-9 to the Bulldogs. Senior Jacob Proffitt and sophomore Billy Bennett were responsible for all three Wildcat points, coach David Bowman said in a news release.

Proffitt and Bennett teamed up to win a nail-biter 9-7 at #1 doubles vs. Bearden's Dino Ponzio and Grayer Dunagen. Bennett faced Ponzio again at #1 singles, winning 8-1. Proffitt notched the third ORHS point with a hard fought 8-5 victory over the Bulldogs' #2 singles player Ray Casciano.

ORHS will host the TSSAA's District 4 "Individual" Tournament on May 2, 3, and 4. The competition is the first step for singles players and doubles teams seeking a 2024 state championship for their high school.

Oak Ridgers are welcome to come to the event this week to support ORHS tennis and watch 60 players representing 10 area TSSAA Class 2-A high schools compete for a District 4 title. The location is the city's tennis facility at 96 Tennessee Ave., with street parking above the courts on Broadway Avenue.
