The Ramapo Girls Soccer Team is Definitely a Keeper!
With 14 wins, 2 tied games, and 4 losses, this year’s Ramapo Girls Soccer team is one for the records! The 2023-2024 girls’ soccer team has been a force to be reckoned with. With captains Bridget Carr in goal, Carolina Mosquera in midfield, Kate Langfelder playing forward, and Cassandra Tafuri Delvecchio who is sadly out from an early injury, they have led the team to the State Sectional finals. The team has an outstanding 71 total goals this season alone! With leading goal scorers Kate Langfelder (16 goals) and Abby Hendrickson (14 goals), the team has demonstrated their skills throughout the season (Highschoolsports.nj.com).
The Roundup: Thankful To Be A Maverick
As we exit Thanksgiving week, I think it’s an appropriate time to reflect on just how great the Maverick sports community has had it so far this year. Field hockey made the playoffs for the first time ever, the volleyball team is back in the NCAA tournament after an 18 year drought, and women’s basketball is off to their best start in half a century. The recent success within Mercy athletics has been prevalent, and the notable coaching hires made over the last few seasons are much to thank for that.

On November 11, 2023, Delbarton (2) matched up with Don Bosco Prep (15) in the NJSIAA Non-Public A Football Quarterfinal. Despite Delbarton’s challenging schedule, they entered the game at an impressive 8-1. The no. 15 seeded Ironmen from Ramsey had high hopes but low statistics. With losses to St. Joe’s Regional and DePaul, among others, Bosco’s 5-5 record was much inferior to Delbarton’s.

Mainland was just one step away from reaching the Group 4 final in 2022, but was edged out by Millville in the South Jersey semifinals. The undefeated Mustangs , No. 4 in the NJ.com Top 20, made up that step and a whole lot more Sunday on their way to a 56-0 victory over No. 8 and undefeated Rampo in the NJSIAA / Rothman Orthopaedics Group 4 state final at Rutgers’ SHI Stadium in Piscataway. Mainland closed out its remarkable season with a 14-0 record.
Senior Spotlight: Chloe Heller
This month’s Senior Spotlight goes to undefeated tennis player Chloe Heller! During her three-year tenure, she has helped her team win countless times. She and her team became league, county, state, and state-sectional champions (for the first time since 2017) and group state-sectional champions (for the first time since 1995) this year. She has won the deciding matches vs Fort Lee in the state sectional tournament, Millburn in the state Finals, and Tenafly in the counties.
