The Nampa Christian boys track and field team is back on the top of the 2A. The Trojans claimed their first state title since winning four straight from 2016-19 on Saturday, scoring 87.5 points, beating out second-place West Side, which scored 78. Nampa Christian got one individual state title Saturday from Ian Johnson, who won at 400 meters, then had two relay teams also win state titles. ...
NNU baseball season ends at regionals
The Northwest Nazarene baseball team went two-and out at the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament, falling 8-6 in 10 innings to San Francisco State in the opening game of the day, then losing 6-3 to host Cal State Monterey Bay later in the day. Against San Francisco State, the Nighthawks tied the game with RBI hits by Kaleb Karpstein, Carter Walsh and Gavin Brubaker in the bottom of the eighth inning, but the Gators were able to get two runs in the top of the tenth inning and holding Northwest Nazarene without a run in the bottom half of the frame. Adam Paganelli had a solo home run in the second inning to put Northwest Nazarene up 1-0, but the Sea Otters took the lead with a three-run home run in the fourth and three more runs in the fifth innings. The Nighthawks end their season with a 36-14-1 record.
Softball Recap: Rilee Diffin can't quite lead Orofino over New Plymouth
Orofino and New Plymouth squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Orofino had to settle for second. They fell just short of the New Plymouth Pilgrims by a score of 12-11. Orofino was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as New Plymouth apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2022.
Lady Wolverines punch their ticket to State
Weiser shortstop Jordan Stromberg tagged second base and got the throw off to first baseman Ellie Shirts for a double play in the bottom of the second inning at Homedale, while Taylor Mordhorst was there to help out. The junior reigned supreme in the girls high jump on Day 1 of the meet, which is being contested at Middleton High School.
