60 live animals, 7 dead found in Norwalk home

NORWALK, Iowa — The Norwalk Police Department is investigating a case of animal neglect after dozens of animals were found living in feces and trash-littered conditions in Norwalk last week.

The Norwalk Police Department said it was called to a home in the 2200 block of Windflower Drive on Friday about an animal neglect situation. Police officers and staff from the Animal Rescue League discovered 57 live dogs, three cats, and seven dead dogs in the home.

Police determined the residents of the home were providing enough food and water to the animals, but the conditions they were living in were unsanitary. Many of the dogs suffered from medical conditions like fleas, mange, loss of fur, cloudy eyes, cuts, scratches, and other injuries that needed treatment.

Police said the owner of the animals is cooperating and has voluntarily surrendered them to the ARL. You can donate to help cover the cost of their care here .

Criminal charges are pending in the case. Police have not released the name of the owner of the animals.
