The Northfield High School softball team continued its winning ways over the past week, as the Raiders stretched their current win streak to five games with a pair of Big 9 victories over Albert Lea and Red Wing.

The week started on Tuesday, April 30 with a 15-7 victory for Northfield at Albert Lea and it was wrapped up with a 9-8 extra innings victory at home against Red Wing on Thursday, May 2.

The two wins moves the Raiders’ record to 9-5, 8-2 Big 9 with just six games left in the conference regular season. On Tuesday, May 7, Northfield hosted a doubleheader against Austin and on Thursday, May 9, Northfield will host a doubleheader against #4 ranked Winona at Rock Field. Of note, Northfield will bring a nine-game Big 9 Conference win streak into the twin bull against Austin on May 7.

In the showdown against Red Wing, the Raiders fell behind early as the Wingers owned a 5-0 lead after the first two innings of play. In the third inning, Northfield rallied with five runs of its own and then took a 7-5 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Raiders added a solo run in the fifth inning to make it 8-5 before Red Wing charged back with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to force extra innings.

Northfield finally managed to gain the upper hand with the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to earn the 9-8 win.

In the game, Northfield outhit Red Wing 14-8 as Grace Mostad pitched the complete game win with 11 strikeouts to her credit. Mostad also led the Northfield offense with two runs scored, two RBIs and four hits — including a home run.

Lindsey Erickson also connected on a two-run home run for NHS while Rita Langford, Emma Peroutka, Leah Enedy and Ellie Capatina all had two hits in the contest for Northfield.
