There were plenty of great performances on the diamond last week, and Rich Garven found some of the best for readers to vote on to decide the Hometeam Baseball Player of the Week.
Congratulations to St. John's Brayden Mercier for taking the top spot in last week's poll with 780 votes (28.7 percent) to edge Doherty's Sam Conrad (508 votes) and Bay Path's Dale Nussey (419 votes) for the honor in a poll with over 2,700 votes cast.
Player of the week nominations are selected by reporters based on coaches reporting game results into the Telegram & Gazette sports department and game coverage from the T&G sports department staff. Noah Basgaard, St. John’s
The senior collected four hits, including two home runs, and drove in seven runs as the Pioneers defeated St. John’s Prep, Catholic Memorial and Doherty.
Zach Casey, Leominster
The senior broke a 6-6 tie in the top of the seventh by driving in his third run with his third hit as the Blue Devils edged Wachusett to kick off a 3-0 week.
Bryce Everson, Auburn
The sophomore came on in relief and surrendered one run and two hits while striking out seven over five innings to earn the win as the Rockets edged Bartlett, 7-6.
Dylan Fischer, Westborough
The junior scattered four hits and didn’t issue a walk over seven shutout innings in which he threw 58 pitches and delivered an RBI single as the Rangers defeated Shrewsbury.
Lucas Gamache, Wachusett
The senior singled in the winning run in the bottom of the sixth to cap a three-run inning as the Mountaineers rallied to edge Algonquin, 3-2.
Jack Krauss, Blackstone Valley
The senior went 2 for 3 with a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth that ignited a five-run rally as the Beavers topped Northbridge, 7-3.
Jackson Libby, Nashoba
The junior was 3 for 3 with two RBIs capped by a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth to propel the Wolves to a 3-2, come-from-behind win over Westborough.
Ian Haupt, Quabbin
The sophomore was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles while driving in four runs as the visiting Panthers departed Gardner with a win.
Max Mandler, Maynard
The freshman surrendered one hit and recorded nine strikeouts over seven shutout innings as the Tigers topped West Boylston.
Jack Nummela, Uxbridge
The senior allowed one hit and struck out seven while throwing a complete-game shutout and collected four hits at the plate as the Spartans defeated Millbury.
Charles Ogonowski, Narragansett
The senior recorded 16 strikeouts and allowed two hits and one run in a route-going performance as the Warriors edged neighboring Gardner.
Angel Paulino, Shepherd Hill
The sophomore racked up 17 strikeouts and allowed one hit while walking two over seven shutout innings as the Rams swept a doubleheader from Hudson.
Trevor Petty, AMSA
The sophomore struck out eight and surrendered four hits and a walk while tossing a complete-game shutout as the Eagles defeated Douglas to cap a 3-0 week.
Anthony Sasso, Worcester Tech
The junior delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth as the Eagles rallied to top Keefe Tech, 5-4.
Logan Savageau, David Prouty
The junior surrendered one hit and recorded 11 strikeouts over five shutout innings in a route-going performance as the Panthers topped North.
Adam Skoglund, Leicester
The senior collected three hits and drove in three runs, the last with a walk-off single in the seventh to lift the Wolverines to a 5-4 victory over Douglas.
Brady Wajda, Hopedale
The sophomore delivered a walk-off single in the eighth as the Warriors rallied for a 5-4 win over Dual Valley Conference rival Nipmuc.
Cam Wester, Tahanto
The senior broke a tie with a two-run double in the sixth to propel the Stags past Ayer-Shirley and had a two-run double in a win over Maynard.
