WELLEN PARK — North Port Police officials said everything is "A-OK" at the new roundabout near the forthcoming Costco in Wellen Park on U.S. 41.

As of Monday evening, no wrecks were reported in the three days since it opened to traffic.

Two years in the making, it opened in the pre-dawn hours Saturday.

The circle is the first of two roundabouts to be constructed near Wellen Park.

The completed one is at Mezzo Drive on one side of U.S. 41, and Brimstone Hill Boulevard at the other.

NPPD assigned two patrol officers to monitor traffic at Wellen Park, including the new circle.

And things are currently going well, according to NPPD Public Information Officer Josh Taylor.

"Smooth sailing so far," Taylor said Monday. "No issues of note."

He noted that construction continues in the area.

"We have special details partnering with FDOT for more patrols along 41," he said.

Another roundabout is planned for U.S. 41 and Wellen Park Boulevard. It will serve as the main entry to Downtown Wellen and it is expected to be completed by 2025.

According to state officials, the work on U.S. 41 will cost $20 million and is being funded by the West Villages Improvement District.
