New York’s youngest movers have a surprising favorite escape, and it isn’t Jersey City, Philly or Austin. According to U-Haul’s latest migration report , the top destination for Gen Zers leaving the New York City area is Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, the region that’s home to Allentown, Easton and Bethlehem, better known as “Christmas City USA.” What U-Haul found For its 2026 Midyear Migration Trends report, U-Haul analyzed one-way truck rentals from July 2025 through June 2026 and sorted them by generation, to see where people at different stages of life are actually moving. For New York City’s Gen Z renters, the top five net-gain destinations were: Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton (the Lehigh Valley) Harrisburg-Carlisle, Pennsylvania Toronto Houston Los Angeles The Lehigh Valley isn’t just a Gen Z thing, either. It also ranked No. 3 for the city’s Millennials . And the valley really is getting younger. America’s first twin-screen movie theater has closed on the Upper East Side after 64 years, — its building is being sold for $41 million

The Upper East Side just lost a piece of movie history. Cinema 123 by Angelika , the Third Avenue theater that opened in 1962 as what’s been called the country’s first twin-screen cinema , has permanently closed after 64 years . The three-screen theater at 1001 Third Avenue, between East 59th and East 60th Streets, held its final screenings on Thursday, October 29, and the closure took effect the next day. The farewell notice kept it short, but it ended on a sweet note: “As our final credits roll, we thank you for being part of our story.” 64 years across from Bloomingdale’s The theater debuted in 1962 as Cinema I & II, described by 6sqft as the first twin-screen cinema in the country . A third screen arrived in the 1980s, and eventually the name became Cinema 123. Over the decades, its screens mixed independent, foreign and mainstream films, which made it a true neighborhood go-to. For generations of Upper East Siders, it was the easy plan: catch a movie across from Bloomingdale’s, grab dinner nearby, no trip downtown required. New York City is set to lose another piece of its Gilded Age history. One of the last surviving mansions from Midtown Manhattan’s historically grand residential era has just sold for a remarkable $42 million. This latest sale calls the future of the building and its surrounding area into question, as plans for a luxury development begin to emerge. The Schieffelin-Bowne House, located at 35 West 57th Street, was purchased by developer Sedesco from the Soloviev Group in a transaction that was recorded on October 29, 2026, according to The New York Post . Dating back to 1891, the five-story Beaux-Arts mansion is a distant reminder of how the wealthy families once called this stretch of Manhattan home. Unfortunately, its interesting history may not be enough to save it. While demolition plans have been approved for the property by the NYC Department of Buildings, no demolition date has been communicated publicly. A glimpse into NYC’s Gilded Age past It’s hard to imagine today, but West 57th Street was once a luxurious residential neighborhood, filled with many grand homes belonging to Manhattan’s wealthiest families. Whatever Happened to W.T. Grant Stores in New York?

W.T. Grant stores disappeared in 1976 after the once-enormous variety-store chain went bankrupt and liquidated its remaining locations. The company filed for protection from creditors in October 1975, but its attempt to continue operating failed. By the following spring, the familiar Grants signs were coming down across New York and the rest of the country.
