TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — An investigation is underway after dozens of ducks were found shot to death in a Florida neighborhood within a matter of days, causing worry among residents.

The dead ducks have been popping up in the Keystone Point neighborhood in North Miami, and according to NBC affiliate WTVJ , residents are “extremely concerned.”

“So I looked at some of the ducks and I saw, I mean, it looks literally like a hole inside of the duck’s chest. So it looks like literally somebody is executing the ducks,” resident Kim Kaplan Marchena told WTVJ.

Burmese pythons are slithering farther north. Could the snakes make Tampa home?

Kaplan Marchena and other residents have joined forces to find the culprit by documenting the incidents, taking pictures of the ducks and reporting them to authorities.

“I mean, it’s pretty frightening to the fact that we might be living amongst somebody who is that psychotic, that wants to like kill these ducks. I mean who’s to say they’re not going to go and shoot a dog or a cat or maybe there’s a stray bullet,” she said.

Kaplan Marchena, an animal advocate, told WTVJ that what’s happening to the ducks is something she’s never seen before.

“It makes me very angry,” she added. “I mean, this is our neighborhood. I’ve been here for 23 years, my daughter has been born and raised in this neighborhood I’ve never seen anything like this.”

According to WTVJ, North Miami Councilman Scott Galvin has fielded several complaints over the last few days about the ducks, adding that a police investigation is underway.

“We’re taking reports like we would any type of crime against a human being. This is a crime. Shooting and killing an animal on other peoples’ property in a public setting is not excusable,” he said.

Anyone with information regarding the ducks is asked to contract North Miami Police.
