A man accused of fatally shooting a neighbor driving by, thinking he'd run over his dog, is being held without bond.

Andrew Perkins, 22, faces one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder after authorities say he shot into a vehicle with two people inside.

The identity of the victim that was fatally shot remains redacted in the report, while his passenger is identified as Buddy Tyndall, 51.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said initial responding deputies found a crashed pickup with multiple bullet holes across the rear of the cab and in the truck bed in the 18200 block of Roberts Road. They said a man was dead in the driver's seat.

The sheriff's office said detectives learned Perkins was at his residence and had walked to the end of his driveway, where he got into a verbal altercation with the victim.

As the victim began to drive away, Perkins fired multiple times at the back of the truck with a rifle.

According to the report, Perkins said he wasn't in fear for his own life, but whether the victim would strike his dog.

Another man inside Perkins' home told deputies a varying story. The witness indicated he was helping Perkins with his two dogs when he saw Perkins walk to the street and begin an argument with the motorist before he heard several shots.

According to the report, the witness said that when Perkins walked back inside, Perkins said the pickup driver tried to hit him.

Court records indicate Perkins was arrested in July 2023 on a battery charge. He's next due in court June 3 for his arraignment.
