Power restored after lightning causes widespread TMLP power outage
Taunton and surrounding communities faced a widespread power outage that impacted approximately 10,000 customers from noon to 2 p.m. today, Friday, Nov. 6, a TMLP spokesperson said. The Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant , in a social media post on Friday, Nov. 6, said the power outage affected Raynham, Taunton, East Taunton, and Lakeville." TMLP attributed the outage to "a lightning strike to a National Grid transmission line." A spokesperson for Taunton Public Schools said that multiple schools were using backup power during the outage and that the phone system was down. Taunton residents get free yard waste drop off days
Taunton residents can dispose of leaves, grass clippings and branches for free during four yard waste drop-off dates in November. Mayor Shaunna O'Connell and the Department of Public Works partnered to offer the program, according to a community announcement. Free yard waste drop-off will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday Nov. 7, 14, 21 and 28 at the City Convenience Center, 330 East Britannia St., Taunton. Residents must provide proof of residency. A local man facing 125 charges concerning a former car dealership has been sentenced after pleading guilty in Fall River Superior Court.
