Springfield Thai restaurant closes but owner says it will reopen
A Springfield Thai restaurant is temporarily closed, according to a Facebook post by the owner. Patrick Netthongkome, owner of Thai Express at 2113 W. Republic Road, said in a Facebook post that the restaurant is temporarily closed due to "a private conflict and incident" and that they have not been evicted from the building despite social media chatter. "While I do not know how long it will take to resolve these matters, I do anticipate resolving them and getting us back open as quickly as possible. My legal team is working diligently to get us back up and running ASAP and we will continue to post updates on our page," Netthongkome wrote in the post. "I can and will say with full confidence that we will be open again in the near future, I just don’t have a date at this time." On Feb. 6, Netthongkome filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in the Western District of Missouri. He had told the News-Leader in a Feb. 10 email that the filing would not affect Thai Express's operations and that he had "no plans of closing" the restaurant. He declined to comment on the bankruptcy filing on the advice of his attorney.

R. Ritchie Robertson's enduring impact on Springfield's musical scene
At one time, more than 400 boys were said to comprise Springfield's famed Boy Scout Band, a group proclaimed as the largest of its kind in the world. It was alongside the Kiltie Drum and Bugle Corps, which began as the Scotch Lassies in 1926. Both are thanks to R. Ritchie Robertson, Springfield’s beloved music man. Although his Boy Scout Band is long gone, the beat of his legacy keeps going on through the Kilties, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2026.
