NORFOLK, Neb. ( KCAU ) — The Nebraska Department of Transportation announced that a pedestrian crossing north of US-81 and Elm Avenue in Norfolk will be seeing some changes soon.

According to a release, officials are considering removing the traffic signal due to studies that indicate it is no longer appropriate for the area.

During the removal study, NDOT will put the signal into flashing mode starting on May 6 until August 5. During this time, the Traffic and Engineering District 3 personnel will continue to monitor the crossing and evaluate public input.

When the study is complete, the signal will either be reactivated, or crews will begin the removal process. If the NDOT decides to remove the signal, appropriate pedestrian crossing signs will be installed.

The release added that drivers are reminded to drive cautiously, buckle up, and put phones down.
