Ethan Miller Twirls a Gem on Senior Day to Snap Hi-Liners Losing Streak
The Valley City Hi-Liners finally snapped their eight-game losing skid as they outlasted the Grand Forks Central Knights 2-1 to pick up their second win of the season. Valley City was led on the mound by Senior Ethan Miller, who saved his best pitching performance of the season for his last game at Charlie Brown Memorial Field. After both teams exchanged scoreless first innings, a leadoff double by the Knights followed by a wild pitch would set up Central to take the lead after a groundout to first base. That leadoff double would be one of only two hits Miller allowed in the game.
Valley City Weekend Tennis Results
The Valley City Hi-Liner tennis team had a busy weekend. On Friday, they had a pair of non-EDC matchups, narrowly defeating Dickinson and then wrapping up a win against Mandan. The match against Dickinson would come down to #2 doubles, with Abby Martineck and Lexi Svenningsen winning four points in a row to win the match and preserve the Hi-Liners’ winning streak.
Valley City Tennis Shines on Senior Day to Claim EDC Regular Season Crown
The Valley City Hi-Liners defended home territory on Senior Day to defeat the Sheyenne Mustang 6-3 to claim their second consecutive EDC Regular Season Championship. As has been the case all season, the Hi-Liners doubles unit propelled them to an early advantage, taking all three matches from the Mustangs. Seniors Abby Martineck and Breck Sufficool reunited for senior day, as they bounced back from their Invitational Loss last Saturday to defeat the previously undefeated Mustangs team of Alyssa Sommerfeld and Shireen Durrani in straight sets. Kailee Neilson and Georgia Zaun dominated their matchup, only dropping three games in their straight-sets win. At the same time, senior Alyssa Thomsen teamed up with eighth grader Skye Neilson to finish the doubles sweep with a pair of tight set wins (7-5, 7-6).
