NOCONA ( KFDX/KJTL ) — The Cruisin’ Nocona Car Show is one of the town’s many iconic attractions.

In its eleventh year, the two-day event is part of the reason Nocona is known as the Classic Car Capital of Texas.

The show has had its ups and downs, though, with the closure of the Pete Horton Car Museum. But Chamber of Commerce President Emory Roden was proud to keep the car show around in Horton’s stead.

“It’s something I’ve enjoyed doing my whole life, and I really want to be a part of that. And I feel like it’s just my way of helping keep the classical car thing of Nocona that Pete worked so hard to bring here, kind of keep it alive in his memory,” Roden said. “And we keep this car thing going as long as we can and try to keep bringing people out for the cruise, the car show and just another event to bring people out to Nocona.”

The first day of Cruisin’ Nocona features the cruise itself. The cruise starts by Nocona Beer and Brewery and takes a long lap around Montague County, making stops along the way to show off the classic cars in all the small towns. Roden says the cruise is a big part of what makes the event so special to the area.

“The beautiful scenery from here to Saint Jo, up north to Muenster, it’s beautiful countryside. And so, you know, just driving 40, 45 miles an hour on a cruise just to see this, the pretty side of North Texas that no one ever thinks they see,” Roden said. “Because, you know, everyone thinks of Texas; you don’t get that a lot, and it’s kind of like a hidden gem.”

The second day of Cruisin’ Nocona starts bright and early Saturday morning with a pancake brunch at The V, and then the car show starts at 10 a.m.

The awards ceremony starts at 4 p.m. Sections of downtown Nocona will be blocked off to accommodate the semi-trucks and other cars involved in the show.
