‘Let’s Go Fishing’ Looking for Volunteers in Brainerd Lakes Area
The Brainerd Lakes Area chapter of Let’s Go Fishing held a fish fry at Camp Confidence last month in East Gull Lake to try and sign up more volunteers. Let’s Go Fishing is an organization with 15 chapters across Minnesota and Wisconsin. They offer free fishing and boating excursions to area seniors, veterans, disabled people, and youth.

John Zemke Resigns as Brainerd Boys’ Swim & Dive Coach After 27 Years
After 27 years as the head coach of Brainerd boys’ swim and dive, John Zemke decided it was time to retire. He steps away on top after leading the Warriors to this year’s Section 8AA title, his 11th overall, while going 7-1 on the season and taking his career record to 188-34-1. The 2024 Brainerd Warriors Athletic Hall of Fame inductee was named Section 8AA Coach of the Year 17 times and was the Class AA Coach of the Year four times.

Andover Man Dies After His Motorcycle Hits Deer Near Aitkin
A 57-year-old Andover man died over the weekend when the motorcycle he was driving struck a deer near Aitkin. The Minnesota State Patrol says James Childrey was westbound on Highway 200 at the time and died following the collision, which happened just after midnight on Sunday.
