    Newton Softball Team Loses to North Warren, Sweeps Hopatcong

    NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School softball team lost 9-2 against North Warren on Tuesday, but defeated Hopatcong 13-3 on Thursday.

    Catherine Vena went 3-for-4 at bat with a double, two singles and three RBIs. She also scored two runs. Jordyn Young went 2-for-3 with a triple, single and RBI.

    Melissa Fehr, Claire Willis, and Carrigan Walsh scored one run apiece, while Emma Trout added two runs to the board.

    Long, who contributed with three runs, was pitching for Newton. She allowed three runs off four hits and struck out nine players.

    Fehr and Mackenzie Greenhalgh each went 2-for-4 at bat, each hitting two singles. Katie Golder-Ryan went 2-for-3 with two singles and an RBI. Long went 1-for-4 with a single and Madison Jones went 1-for-2 with a single.

    Newton’s pitcher against North Warren was Fehr. She allowed nine runs off 12 hits, struck out five batters and walked three.

    The Newton High School softball team moves their overall record to 8-12 and their NJAC-Colonial division record to 6-4 as they take on Somerville on Monday May 13.
