Newton Boys Golf Team Places Third in State Sectionals

NEWTON, NJ – The Newton High School boys golf team completed in the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 1, Group 1 Sectionals on Monday. They placed third with a final score of 337.

• 5th Cooper Armstrong with an 82
• 11th CJ Nicholas with an 85 in a six way tie
• 11th Nick Kurilko with an 85 in a six way tie
• 11th Nick Deiorio with an 85 in a six way tie
• 25th Bruno Groth with a 90

The team was only three strokes out of third place, placing fifth overall behind Mountain Lakes at 310, Pequannock Township at 331, Glen Ridge and Wallkill Valley, who tied at third with 335 and then Newton.

“Cooper Armstrong, CJ Nicholas, Nick Deiorio and Nick Kurilko all placed in the top 20 overall out in a field of 80 golfers. Great work guys, “said Head Coach Bryan Bitondo, in a post on the teams’ Facebook page.

The Newton High School boys golf team’s record is 11-5 overall and 8-0 in the NJAC-Colonial division. They will compete in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament this coming Wednesday, May 8.
