Newton Boys Baseball Team Loses Two in Memorial Tournament

NEWTON, NJ—The Newton High School baseball team had a tough outing when the played in the Darren Manser Memorial Tournament against Kittatinny and Wallkill Valley on Saturday, April 27.
Kittatinny was up first against Newton at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Newton lost 8-1. They scored runs in the first, third, fifth and sixth innings.
Hunter Wolfe and Ryan Bollette each went 1-for-3 at bat against the Cougars, but hitting a single. Wolfe had one RBI and the only run for the Braves was scored by Shea Vallorosi.
The Braves had three pitchers; Braxton Guerra, Finn Martin and Wolfe. Wolfe pitched 3.2 innings, threw 64 pitches, walked two and struck out two. He allowed two runs off three hits with one error.
Guerra threw 45 pitches in two innings and allowed four runs off three hits with four errors, two walks and one strike out. Martin threw 26 pitches and walked two players, allowing two runs.
Newton took on Wallkill Valley at 12:30 on Saturday, losing 9-5. Branden Taylor went 2-for-3 at bat with a single, double, one RBI and two runs scored.
Vallorosi went 2-for-4 with a single and a double. Bollette and Cooper Finley each went 1-for-4 at bat. Bollette had a single and Finley had one RBI and one run scored.
Wolfe and Matthew Siegel each scored a run a piece for Newton. Daniel Mountford went 1-for-3 with a single and an RBI. Maxwell Maslowski had one RBI.
Maslowski and Bollette pitched for the Braves. Maslowski threw 74 pitches in four innings and allowed six runs off six hits. He had six errors, walked four players, but struck out four.
Bollette allowed three runs off two hits in his two innings. He threw 47 pitches, had one error and walked three players.
The Newton High School baseball team moved their overall record to 2-12 and their NJAC-Freedom division record to 1-6. They will host Morris Hills on Tuesday, April 30 beginning at 4 p.m.
